Talk to your professional

Replacing a hearing aid is similar to when you got hearing aids for the first time, only this time things will be a little simpler. First you will need to book an appointment with your hearing health professional and briefly explain to them prior to the appointment what happened and that you need to replace a hearing aid. At the appointment you and your hearing health professional will go over the situation and then go through your options of replacing your hearing aid.

Performing a hearing test

Your hearing health professional may want to test your hearing especially if you have not had a hearing test done recently. Depending on what option you choose a hearing aid may be ordered at the appointment or they may have a refurbished replacement hearing aid on hand. Either way your new hearing aid will need to be programed to your hearing loss and will need to be fit to you ear as well. It should be noted that depending on the type of hearing you choose or have previously chosen an earmold may need to be taken.

Hearing aids and aging

Another factor that needs to be highly considered is the age of your hearing aids. Depending on the age of the hearing aids you may want to replace both hearing aids at the same time to ensure proper sound and quality of the hearing aids as they do work together for optimal hearing satisfaction.

Financing hearing aids

You will also need to talk to your hearing health professional about cost and payment options. Will your insurance cover part or all of the costs? Can you finance or have a payment plan with your hearing health professional? Cost of a refurbished verse a brand new hearing aid. Also think about the benefits of replacing either both hearing aids or just the lost one. Each of these questions needs to be answered and discussed with your hearing health professional.

It may take some time to get used to the new hearing aid, just as it did when you first got hearing aids. But you are a pro and will be able to adjust to the new hearing aid well over time. You know and understand already what your life sounds like through hearing aids so you will be able to adjust easily and also be able to have adjustments made easier in the future.
