“A diamond is forever,” goes the famous saying; don’t you wish they said the same about technology? Unfortunately, most pieces of modern technology do not last forever. Whether it is your favorite UHD television set or the newest model of your favorite smartphone, they are all meant to die in the very near future. Gone are the days when you could get your grandmother’s hand-me-down sewing machine; most modern day machines need regular upgrades and become outdated very soon.

However, all is not lost. If you maintain your hearing aids regularly and take good care of them they are bound to last a very long time. In the meantime, some tiny issues may hinder their functionality and may lead to malfunction. But this doesn’t mean that you have to dump them for new ones. Here are some quick fixes that can get your hearing aids back on track.

Replace your battery

One of the most common signs of hearing aid malfunction is a weak battery. Most hearing aids will let out a beeping sound or a warning light would turn on if the battery is low. If you have the newest versions of hearing aids, they will speak to you and tell you to replace batteries. In the older versions, the sound quality would worsen or become distorted or the hearing aids would die out altogether. Any of these signs require you to make a simple action of changing your hearing aid batteries.

Remove and reinsert your hearing aid

This is the classic “turn it off and back on” fix to almost every piece of technology. Sometimes outside interference, overheating or a simple malfunction in the complex circuits inside the hearing aid can cause it to give out a distorted result. In such a case, it helps to move the hearing aid, turn it off for a few minutes, turn it on and reinsert it in your ear. Hopefully, this should solve any minor problem.

Clean your hearing aid using a tool

Buildup of earwax or dead skin can cause serious problems even for the most durable hearing aids. That’s the reason why doctors tell you to keep your hearing aids clean at all times with the help of professional cleaning tools. If you don’t want to invest in cleaning tools, a simple clean and dry cloth can also do wonders if used religiously to clean your aids.

Replace the wax filter

Some people have ears that give out excessive earwax. This is an essential secretion that has numerous health benefits for your ears. Your hearing aids, on the other hand, are not so fond of earwax. Most hearing aids come with wax filters that need to be replaced after a few weeks due to wax build up. You will notice a clearer sound quality once you replace these filters.

Check your input settings

Modern hearing aids come with a plethora of input settings that help you adjust you hearing preferences according to the room you are in, the number of people you are interacting with and the kind of activities you are actively taking part in. Make sure your input settings are in accordance with your surroundings for a perfect hearing experience.
